Last Blog of 2008 and like alot of folks I’m spent. I’m just glad I made it to the end of the year. I want to wish all of you a very happy new year. And I want to thank all of you for supporting my show(s)! The afternoon show is as much fun today as it was the day I came to rock 101 and thats because you guys bring great song ideas to the show and support all that we do. And Fresh Tracks has had it’s best year bringing you some outstanding up and coming local and regional bands and artists. And it will be even better in 2009 with many great new releases coming from the wealth of talent we have here in the upstate.  As we say goodbye to 2008 I just wanted to thank you all for making Rock 101 what we are The best damn classic rock station in the country!

Why Fashion Sucks

Posted in: Uncategorized

In the past I’ve railed about the fashion industry and those that decide what people, especially women, should wear.

Its been my position that some limp wristed, light in the loafers rump ranger from Paris has no feaking idea what American women should wear…at least to attract American men.  How could they?

A few years ago Johnnie Versace was killed on the steps of his South Beach mansion.  His sister Donatella took over the business and now is the major decision maker in the business.  That means she pulls together her sense of style,  sense of business, and her sense of self to design the seasonal style from the House of Versace.  In other words the women of America take their fashion pointers from this woman.

Scary concept ain’t it?

Oh yea…Happy Holidays.

Proof…that RAP is NOT music!!

Posted in: Uncategorized

This past Saturday I pulled the 10am to 2pm  air shift, playing some great classic rock. During that time it dawned on me that the musc we play has stood the test of time.

When you hear a cut from Cream in the late 60’s you still have an appreciation for the pure skill they brought to the studio.  I doubt anyone will be playing ANY of the hip hop  / rap BS you hear in 40 years.

Now, to show you just how bad that crap truly is, lets take the lyrics, and let a choir perform them in an attempt to improve the artistic level.

See?  Crap is crap….no matter who does it.

Ho Ho Ho.

President Elect Obama named his pick for education secretary yesterday, Arne Duncan.
Mr. Duncan ran the Chicago public school system.   I hope he can do for America what he did for Illinois and Chicago.”
Only 17% of eighth graders can read at that level in Chicago schools overseen by Arne Duncan, (eighth grade are those most likely to have been in the Chicago system for a majority of Duncan’s tenure.)  Seventy-five percent of Chicago students scored below 283 in the math assessment.Nationally, Chicago is the third largest school district with over 408,000 students.
Its budget for 2007-2008 was $4.6 billion, according to information released by Chicago Public Schools.
$862 million of that was supplied by the federal government. You know, money you and I helped supply.
Gosh….I can only hope he will do as well for us as he did for Chicago.

 Yep…..change you believe in.

Confirmation that a Sucker IS Born Every Minute!!

Posted in: Uncategorized

You are female and looking for “Mr right.”  You meet THE guy that has everything.
He is mature, has the ability to converse with almost anyone.
He is well known in the community, and seemingly able to function under stress.

He does have one or two small things that you plan to work on and pretty soon, PRESTO he will be perfect.

Ok, he is 24 years older than you, and this will be his 5th wedding.
But, its importnt to keep in mind that the only reason his 3rd and 4th marriages didn’t work out is because they DIED
Oh and here’s the kicker…..HE is suspected in both deaths.

Thats right…you, ever positive you can “fix this one”, are engaged to Drew Peterson!

Everything you’ve just read is true…..there is a young woman in his hometown that is engaged to Drew Peterson.
Can you imagine the holiay happiness that coursed thru her family.

Assorted Stuff

Posted in: Uncategorized

First off all…last night was special as I got to attend the graduation cermonies of USC Upstate.

Now I have had a problem trying to describe some of the events regarding the rude people who yell things as the grads walked across the stage, the startling lack of skill in the brass quartet that performed…..the same 30 seconds of music…..for 20 minutes, finding notes that made dogs outside the building run for the hills, and then there was the speech given by Representative Bob Inglis.  He will now and forever be known as “mumbles.”

I have chosen to ignore all those petty problems and instead focus on the positive.
I was witness to a fine young man walk the stage to accept his four year degree.
He represents all that is right with the “younger generation” that I all too often rail against.
Chuck, you made us all proud.

Now why is it I keep hearing the world is going to come to an end if one or more of the auto makers files for bamkruptcy?
EVERY major U.S. airline has gone thru the court system and yet kept flying.  No, the earth won’t explode BUT the UAW may have to lower their average hourly rate from $75 an hour to something more normal.
You mean you didn’t know that the majority of those on the line make $156,000 per year?  Yes Virginia its true.

Finally, and for no apparent reason we continue to hear from the Hillary Clinton camp.  It seems that even though she has been nominated for Sec. of State, she is not pleased that CarolineKennedy wants her senate seat.
She thinks MS Kennedy is not qualified.  Somehow Obama was perfect for his senate seat and now the oval office, but not Carolina Kennedy.  And I thought I had big balls.
