Sniff..sniff…can you smell it?

It’s the brewing of a major s&@t storm in New York city.  The mayor, Michale Bloomberg is having problems with the upcoming trial of military combatants from 911.

The Mayor has issues with security, costs and so on with the decision made by Attorney General Eric Holder.  Beyond that fact that Holder is a sleaze of major proportion, he is wrong headed on the results of the coin flip that helped him decide to bring detainees from Guantanamo to the U.S. for the same trial given to a U.S. citizen.

Now this part is painful because while I have always considered Senator Lindsey Graham a camera chasing lightweight, he summed up the feeling many of us have regarding Eric Holder and civilian trials for military combatants.

Impossible shot(s)

Posted in: Uncategorized

From my old stomping grounds in Johnson County Kansas, Olathe Northwest High School was doing an attempt to spoof College Humor’s Prank Wars Half Court Million Dollar Shot, the school told science teacher and girls basketball coach Joel Branstrom if he made a half-court shot while blindfolded, he would win NCAA tickets. However, the school never had NCAA tickets to give him, as they never expected him to make the shot. Not only did he make it, he sunk it!

Then WDAF reporter Rob Low shows up to do a report on the amazing shot for the evening news, but check out what happens, again…

Look what I found in my family tree!

Posted in: Uncategorized

You know family history is a very interesting thing. You never know everything about your past, you think you do but there are always more buried through time and once in a while something pops up that just might surprise you. This just happened for me this past week.

You see I knew my Great Grandfather was a medical missionary in Korea way back in the early 1900’s I was aware he had spent like 40 years in the country doing a lot of good things for the people he cared so much about, and I was also pretty sure he was very close to the Methodist church as well. But I didn’t know how important a figure he was in the establishment of the church in the country of Korea. He was a major part of the great Revival movement of 1907 that lead to the way the church would become and has continued to be to this day. The People of South Korea see his work as so important that they have recently decided to Honor my great Grandfather Robert A. Hardie with a monument and a special ceremony coming up later this spring!

As you can imagine this was a big surprise and honor for my whole family. It’s seems that this is such a major event that my family has been invited to attend this event in Korea as well! We are being flown over to attend the event by the people of South Korea and will be given a grand tour of all that my great grandfather was a part of. But this is not the only connection my family has to this amazing country, we have much more that I was more aware of than this recent revelation, some of it good and some of it tragic.

See because of my great grandfather long association with the people of Korea, well my Aunt Dorothy spent many years teaching in the country and once made a very personal tour to the country side and wrote an article for parade magazine about her journey. You see her and my fahter’s big brother was in the Korean War, and he was killed in that war. And my aunt went back into those mountains where the horror of that war is still in the air ( being so close to the 38th parallel )where north and south stand at the ready even to this day. She stood in the very place her and my dad’s brother lost his life and wrote about the whole experience. My Aunt passed away a few years ago, and I think she had found some peace in taking that journey. And now after all these years one member of my father’s family and his contributions to mankind has provided the chance for my father to take that same journey as his sister did, to make peace with the loss of a brother so many years ago.

You can see now why this trip is so wonderful for our family in so many ways. I’m so fortunate to be able to travel to this country that has been a part of my family it’s seems like forever and to be able to be there to support my Father on this once in a life time Journey! So I say thank you to the People of South Korea, the Korean Church and to my Great Grandfather for what you’ve made happen. A chance for my father to complete a journey he’s wanted to take for so long and I thank you all for allowing me to be there with him!

John Edwards….THE baby daddy.

Posted in: Uncategorized

This has been an interesting morning.

At 7am the Today show led with the story that John Edwards has FINALLY admitted to be the “baby’s daddy”.  That’s right, he publicly confessed to fathering a child with a former campaign aid.  Well, HE didn’t really do it, he had to have someone else take the uncomfortable questions.  Seems to be a pattern here.

Now, let’s use this as a teaching moment.
How about we compare two politicians, both of which have admitted to doing the “big nasty” with someone outside the family home.

In this corner….Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.

In the other corner….former shining star of the Democratic party….Smiling John Edwards.

For comparison purposes consider the following:

Sanford stood in front of a podium and said “I have screwed up and had a relationship with another woman.”  He did this at a press conference.
John Edwards, on the other hand, actually ran down a hallway and hid behind a locked door in the mens room.

Governor Sanford, went around the state in what seemed like a non-stop apology tour, still admitting what he had done, while calling the babe in Argentina his “soul mate.”
Smiling John, denied anything with anyone while perfecting the backpedal.

Governor Sanford said you could call him names, say what you will, but he was going to remain in office, take his lumps and finish the job he started. By that I mean being Governor.

John Edwards bought his girl friend a house In Charlotte and then moved out of his home and moved to the coast of North Carolina…where he has HIDDEN until today.  During this entire period there have been comments and questions about his girl friend’s daughter. Smiling John denied she was his daughter and even paid another aid to say he fathered the little girl.

Throughout both of these slimy demonstrations of poor judgment, a very obvious double standard was on display.

The media treatment of each was markedly different.
Edwards was a topic of discussion for less than 4 days.
Sanford on the other hand has been hammered for months.

The poster boy for the Democratic Party was essentially ignored and even today’s confession will garner attention for a few days if not only a few hours.

Both of these two deserve to be held accountable.
Both have done damage to his family.
Only one brought a new life into the world while his wife was fighting for her life…and then turned his back on all 3 women.  His wife, his girl friend and his daughter are linked to an ass clown.
At least Sanford had the backbone to “man up” and own the issue.

One has stones while the other is a nutsack.  Was that too harsh?

The Sun is Shining in Massachusetts.

Posted in: Uncategorized

Can we all take a moment and pause, bow our heads, and recognize the earthquake that shook a country. No I’m not talking about Haiti, it was the election held in Massachusetts yesterday.

Somehow an entire state pulled its head out of its ass, and breathed the fresh air of common sense . Its been a long time since a collective group of voters realized that a U.S. Senate seat belonged to the people……and NOT Big Head Ted Kennedy.

What does this mean for the President?
Well al lot of planning and thought as to how he can railroad a bill that the majority of people do not want, past those very people.

As he wraps up his first year in office he probably needs a boost in confidence.

Never let it be said I wasn’t willing to help.

Overdue Acknowledgement.

Posted in: Uncategorized

I’ve been trying to write this blog for almost a month. Its taken this long because its been very very difficult to put the words together without bringing people down, about someone they don’t know, when they already have a plate full of personal problems. But here goes.

Right after Christmas I got a call while on the air from Tony Goodwin. Tony is a member of the “Friends of Whitten Center” and usually I hear from him or Glenn Bledsoe when they want me to promote something for Whitten. Naturally I started out by busting his chops. Then he asked if I had heard anything about Glenn.   That’s when I got the news.

It seems Glenn was driving home December 23rd, he lost control of his truck, crashed and died at the scene. I knew Tony wasn’t kidding, even though I wished he had been. At that moment I knew I had lost a good friend.

Glenn Bledsoe had worked at Whitten Center for almost 35 years and was a good a representative of a fine organization as you could have asked for. But, he was more than that. He was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Even when things were tough, he could brighten a room just by walking in. Over the years we had worked on a number of motorcycle events for Whitten and I had a chance to watch him put all he had into all these events to raise money for Whitten Center and all the good it does.

As I said at the top of the post, this has been tough to write and I’ve put it off for a while, because no matter how I started, I always ended up thinking the same thing. Many others would be much better saying what I wanted to convey. He was great guy and I will miss him. I feel for his family and I know they and Whitten have lost more than just a man.

I am embarrassed to admit it, but I found myself feeling sorry for me at his passing. Seems selfish, but then I heard a new song from Tobey Keith about the loss of a friend of his. It talks about the passing of his friend Wayman Tisdale. Keith does a much better job than I can.

Glenn Bledsoe. Great work from a good man.

Welcome to the sand box, and prepared to be amazed.

Posted in: Uncategorized

Yesterday I decided to avoid all the crap and those that produce it in Washington. The video from Letterman was cool and then the wife showed me this one.

When you consider I cannot draw a circle, maybe you can understand the appreciation I have for this…. A true artist.

All done with a light box and sand. Thats right….sand. See you on the beach. I need the practice.
