Say Hello To My “Little” Friend..

This is disturbing, but funny as hell, even if it’s not a real school play.

Timeless!!!

Posted in: Uncategorized

Happy Birthday Eric Clapton!!

His age is unimportant, because he is timeless…..and so is his music.

Many love his ballads, others his early rock material from the “supper” groups.  Me, I love the fact he can mix and meld all of it in a flash.

You will never see me dance.   I’m pretty self-conscious and feel  uncomfortable when asked to look “stupid.”  Having said that, there are times, when totally alone, I can let myself go and totally get into MY music.  Here is an example of that music and why it moves me.

It’s going to be above 70 today and I plan to put the Harley on the road, run some music thru the I-Pod earbuds.  Blue sky, warm air in my face and Clapton in my head.  Life…..its good.

Happy Birthday Clapton. Rock on.

The Bear awakes

Posted in: Uncategorized

Well spring has finally returned and it’s nice to crawl out of the cave and see the signs of life and feel the warmth of the sun again. But Now what do I do? I mean I’m as pale as a ghost I’ve put on another 10 pounds over the winter and I’ve got to wear shorts or melt.  Tanning bed and salads for the next month I guess.

I’m hanging on by a sliver to my Hockey passion this spring. Usually my teams are locked up to be in the playoffs and favored to win it all, but this year has been tough. It took an incredible run and so huge upsets for my Michigan Wolverines to make the NCAA men’s hockey tournament. And they could easily go one and done on Saturday. And as of today the Detroit Redwings basically have to win all the rest of their games just to hang onto the 8th and final playoff spot in the NHL. That’s something I’m used to, but it does make it exciting down the stretch because every game is do or die.

I’m actually getting a little excited about baseball season starting too. It’s Bobby Cox last year as the Braves Manager and with some great young talent and decent pitching, this could be a fun year. And my Detroit Tigers look ready to make a good run again this year, and this time they will break the Twins fans hearts like they did to us last year, pay backs are a … well you know!

Again I want to thank all of you out there for helping me make it to 10 years at Rock 101. I couldn’t have done it without you all and I look forward to another 10! Greenville is a great place to live for many reasons but the main one is the people!

The Aging of Rock Lyrics.

Posted in: Uncategorized

Well here we are on the doorstep of the weekend and time to take a step back from politics and find something you can relate to.

What better than lyrics to classic rock songs and the aging process.  I know, I know, seems there isn’t any connection.

You are probably right, but I need the setup for the video to work.  LOL

Nietzsche, Hegel, Kant, & George Carlin

Posted in: Uncategorized

Each week I get these e-mails that I requested be sent to me.  They are for a guy named Tim Moore, Managing Partner of the Audience Development Group.  Tim is very well versed in just about everything including history & war.  It’s amazing how Tim can put in a quote for Patton or MacArthur and make it relevant for his topic.  This weeks topic is “Nietzsche, Hegel, Kant, & George Carlin”

If you want to be motivated, read on..

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences but less time. We possess more degrees but less common sense; more knowledge but less judgment. We have more experts but more problems.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get angry too quickly, stay up too late, get too tired, and read too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values. We know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living but not a life; we’ve added years to life, but not life to years.

We’ve been to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We’ve conquered outer space, but not inner space. We’ve done larger things but not necessarily better things. We’ve cleaned up the air but polluted our thinking. We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more but say less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned how to rush but not to wait. We build faster computers to hold more information, yet have far less communication.

These are the times of fast food and slow digestion; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are also times of more leisure but less fun; fancier houses but more broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway ethics, overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer us up to put us to sleep. It is a time when there is much in the store window and nothing in the stockroom.

This is a time when technology can bring this letter to you instantly, and when you can either share the insight or just hit “delete.”

George Carlin may have been under credited. Seen as the “Hippy Dippy Weatherman” and other persona, Carlin could obviously go deep, as he did with these observations on the human condition.

So into the future, try spending more time with people and a little less with technology. Computers and e-mail are essential; we all need them. In reality technology is only a tool; useless until a person puts it to work. An ADG colleague once remarked we should think of our management group like an NBA team. You have 12 chairs on the floor to fill with the best players. Anything less won’t get you into the playoffs. Are you there yet?

As Carlin points out, it’s not a kinder, gentler world. Realizing that once-clear rules are now clear vulnerabilities, it’s time to re-value our prized relationships, surround ourselves with the best people in skill and character, then drive ahead looking into the future, as opposed to being transfixed on the rear view mirror.

Sincerely,
Tim Moore

A few months ago I referred to Vice President, Joe Biden as the crazy uncle that always seems to be able to lob one into the punch bowl.  I was right then…and I am right now.

Last week at a ceremony he referred to the mother of an honoree as being dead….she is still alive
It was a small thing and he recovered.

Yesterday he dropped the “F” bomb, in the White House, in front of guests, the President AND microphones / cameras from around the world.

Now listen hard as Uncle Fester remarks that the signing of the bill is a “big f’ing deal.”
THEN watch the President as he cuts his eyes, almost begging the Secret Service to put a round in the VP and instantly remove the need to apologize to the world.

In an administration where the President rarely opens his mouth without a tele-prompter, we have his chosen one, constantly  on the verge of taking a verbal dump.

My dad used to someone like Biden has “more mouth than a mule has ass.” LOL

Rules?? We don’t need no stinking rules!!

Posted in: Uncategorized

The vote on Health Care this weekend will go down as historic.  Speaker of the House Pelosi is right “this will go in the history books.” The actual reason it will be written about so extensively may not be for the same reasons she was thinking.

The Mouth that Roared!!

The bill hasn’t even been signed into law and already 7 states have brought lawsuits challenging the constitionality of the federal government requiring people to buy something they may not want.

Crafted in the dark with deals and promises that apparently they aren’t very proud of the results will be debated, fought and marginalized.  All this done is an environment of “we don’t need no stupid rules.”

Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings who was impeached and removed from the bench as a federal judge, before being elected to the House when he said “”There ain’t no rules here, we’re trying to accomplish something. . . .All this talk about rules. . . .When the deal goes down . . . we make ‘em up as we go along.”

So, you think your commute is bad.

Posted in: Uncategorized

With the passage of Health Care last night, the stock market is unhappy, the republicans are unhappy and the medical community is well…unhappy.

Here’s something to make you feel better.

Be thankful you aren’t the one driving the car!!
It’s all in how you look at things isn’t it?

For the love of the game

Posted in: Uncategorized

I swear every year I keep saying I’m not buying into the hype I don’t really care, not very interested, but here I am, sitting in my office with the TV on watching  BYU vs Florida the first game of the tournament! NO I did not fill out a Bracket, I haven’t for several years now because quite frankly I had lost alot of interest in College Basketball. It just doesn’t do it for me like it used to. And for the past several years my focus has been more on college and Pro Hockey. But last year kind of brought me half way back towards enjoying the game. Michigan made it to the tournament and yes they play CLEMSON and they beat them too! and so I kept watching for the first few rounds and then lost interest. But this year something is different. First, the Houston Cougars have returned to the dance, I was living in Houston during those great days of PHI SLAMA JAMA and just loved those great runs that team made year after year.So that got me interested. Secondly, there doesn’t seem to be a clear favorite to win it all it looks like to me atleast 5-6 teams could run the table. Third, how bout them Terriers. Wofford made  this year and I’d love to see them pull the big upset  in the 1st round. Sure Clemson is in again but until that team shows some interest in playing up to there talent level, why watch a team that quits before the game even starts!  But I think the main reason I enjoy this Madness as they call it is I truly loved the game as a kid, and believe it or not I was pretty good at it. So I enjoy the talent of these guys and I do love to pull for the underdog! Give me a first round upset and I’m all about that team!  So you want to know who I’m picking for the finals eh?  Nope not gonna give a pick, I’m just enjoy watching some great games and pull for the underdog in the final whoever it is! Don’t beleive I played? check the pic at the top  thats me # 20 as usual never to far away from the coach where he could grab me and say shut up!
