Beatles WHITE album… my personal fave.
Rocky Raccoon???
Why Don’t We Do It In The Road???
And Blackbird … Still a motto of mine. Take your broken wings and learn to fly!!! All our lives… we are only waiting for our moment to be free.
The Beatles wrote such enticing, sublime and sometimes, quite simply, happy lyrics. There is such beauty in the simplicity and the complex.
To put it plainly: I love The Beatles.
In first grade my best little friend, Lisa Fink, had the coolest parents. While mine were blaring the likes of Mahalia Jackson and classical concertos, Lisa Fink’s parents were playing The Beatles. We would go to her house after school to play. Sneaking cottage cheese out of her mother’s stash and dancing to Oh-Bla-Di, Oh-Bla-Da off The Beatles White Album. Vinyl, of course.
We actually entered a talent show, dancing to that classic happy song. Six year-old girls bopping about ridiculously to the lyrics, “life goes on!” So profound for such naive little idiots. Lisa Fink’s parents dressed her appropriately in bell-bottom pants and a really cool shirt while my parents screwed me in to a taffeta party dress that had come over with us when we moved over from Germany. It had been my sister Jody’s, then my sister Carolyn’s dress… and then to my chagrin… MINE. I looked completely un-cool! But as you all know me, I danced my skinny ass off and yes, we won.
I still love little Lisa Fink, her cool-ass parents, and my square military upbringing… and, forever, The Beatles.
